"Les Petits Eléphants de Chiang Rai"
The Art Elephant Project grew from an idea by Dr. Kobchai Jitsakula who wanted to offer an opportunity for Greenwing to work with local artists in Chiang Rai involved with the ArtBridge Foundation. The purpose was to widely communicate the beauty of contemporary art and Lanna culture by focusing upon the elephant. Sixty elephant sculptures were created and then painted by sixty artists illustrating their concepts using techniques for which they were known. The ArtBridge Foundation was pleased to cooperate because its mission is to connect art with society. We believe that this type of project facilitates a the creation of meaning on a social level.
In addition, the elephant is iconic and representative of Thailand and Lanna since ancient times. It is a marvelous creature; its massive stature, its extraordinary strength, its long life has withstood the test of time. For this reason, it is my feeling that the cooperation between Greenwing and the ArtBridge will reach into our community through a shared vision.
I hope will be just the first of many future opportunities to work together.
